Although a non-violent criminal offense may often be penalized less harshly than a violent one, the penalties are serious and can have a significant impact on your life and career. Non-violent offenses vary by State and are generally defined as crimes that do not involve the use of force and do not result in physical injury to another individual. A variety of crimes, citations and legal violations fall within this category, including: various violations of ordinances and rules, such as disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, traffic rule violations, property crimes, such as theft, larceny, embezzlement, receipt of stolen goods. Various types of White Collar Crime lie within this area, such as fraud, money laundering, public corruption and tax crimes. Additionally, various drug and alcohol-related crimes, prostitution, racketeering and gambling and bribery are considered to be non-violent crimes.
