Stanford J. Bandelli has over 30 years of experience in the area of criminal law and is one of the most respected trial attorneys in New York.
As a private practitioner, Mr. Bandelli has had success on high profile cases, winning outright acquittals after trial for individuals charged with murder, attempted murder, assault and other serious crimes. His acquittal after jury trial for Rebekah Johnson, a fugitive from justice featured on America’s Most Wanted Top Ten List, ranks as the top criminal trial verdict in Staten Island, New York. More importantly, he has successfully negotiated hundreds of dispositions that did not include jail time for clients charged with the possession of drugs, the sale of drugs, weapons possession, fraud, larceny, and other crimes.
Mr. Bandelli takes great pride in his ability to protect the interests of his clients and strongly believes in Second Chances. If the ultimate objective of criminal justice is to rehabilitate rather than to incarcerate, it is essential to any meaningful defense that the individual charged be recognized as a human being not as a statistic. Additionally, over the past several years Mr. Bandelli has successfully transitioned his practice and has served as General Counsel to several small businesses with corporate headquarters based in New Jersey. His experience as a prosecutor and criminal defense attorney have served his clients well when advising upon and negotiating Letters of Intent, Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreements, Employment Agreements, Broker Agreements and various contracts.
Professional Background
Mr. Bandelli started his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney at the Queens County District Attorney’s Office where he tried numerous cases involving petty crimes and serious felonies. While assigned to the Narcotics Investigations Bureau, he supervised a joint task force responsible for prosecuting violent drug gangs operating within New York City’s largest housing project and making it safer for its residents. He concluded his career as an ADA in the Career Criminal Major Crimes Bureau after obtaining A1 felony convictions at trial for the attempted murder of two New York City police officers responding to an armed robbery in Astoria, Queens.
Mr. Bandelli also has had the privilege of serving as a Special Assistant to the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. As a Special, he supervised the El Dorado Task Force in a complex international investigation involving drug trafficking and money laundering. El Dorado succeeded in removing substantial quantities of cocaine from the streets of New York and disrupting the flow of illegal drug money within the United States.
Mr. Bandelli has appeared on behalf of clients in State and Federal Courts located in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut and is admitted to the bar in New York and New Jersey. In 2004, he was appointed by the Chief Judge of the State of New York to be Brooklyn’s sole representative on the Commission to Examine Small Firms and Solo Practices. He has served as a Vice President of the Kings County Criminal Bar Association and presently sits on the Advisory Committee to the Assigned Counsel Plan for the City of New York.
